Social Media Content Creation Volunteer

Creating content for our social media channels is a vital way to promote and profile the Hospice, its services, shops, fundraising and volunteer recruitment. We are looking for volunteers to help and support with this, by capturing content especially within our shops and supporting our retail projects. The St Leonard’s Communications and Marketing team looks after all aspects of internal and external communications, marketing and branding for the Hospice, including the website and brand social media channels.

When am I needed?

We are looking for volunteers who can come into the Hospice at a mutually convenient day/time within the working week as well as being able to travel off-site to meet people and record content in our shops or at events.

This is a new role and we envisage it being an ad-hoc or project-based role depending on need and volunteer availability.

What will I be doing?

This role may include a mixture of the following:

  • Creating social media content for our brand social media channels
  • Obtaining patient, supporter, staff and volunteer stories
  • Profiling our services, shops, fundraising activities and campaigns
  • Taking quality photographs or short videos to use across our channels
  • Supporting with Hospice campaigns

What skills and qualities will I need?

  • Confidence with IT and social media
  • A good eye for detail
  • Strong writing skills
  • Confidence with filming & photography
  • Enjoy meeting new people and hearing their stories
  • Be able to follow instructions and record outcomes accurately
  • Ability to travel independently to at least some of our retail venues, using your own vehicle or public transport - whilst applications from within the York area are encouraged, we are highly interested in volunteers able to travel to our shops in either Selby, Pocklington, Malton, Easingwold, or Haxby.
  • Some experience of creating social media posts or editing videos would be advantageous
  • Access to a good quality camera or recording equipment would be helpful
  • A knowledge or interest in retail, or creative eye for secondhand fashion would be beneficial but not essential
  • Have a good understanding of personal and professional boundaries
  • Ability to maintain the highest levels of confidentiality

How will I benefit from being a Communications and Social Media Volunteer?

  • Use your time and skills for a good cause
  • Be part of a friendly and inclusive team
  • Meet new people
  • Develop transferable skills and boost your CV
  • Develop interpersonal skills and confidence
  • Receive training and ongoing support
  • Be able to volunteer flexibly with limited time commitment

Support and Supervision

Volunteers will be supervised by the Communications and Marketing Team who will provide you with full role training and support and liaise with you over all aspects of your role.

As travel is a requirement of this role, reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.  As we grow our volunteer team, we hope that those taking on the role will not be required to travel outside of their local area (e.g. Haxby, York City Centre, Easingwold, etc.)

The Volunteer Services Team will help guide you through the application and induction process and be your point of contact for general enquiries about volunteering.

Training

Volunteers are required to complete mandatory training modules which may be delivered via booklets, our online platform, by video links or face to face. There will be booster and update refresher training as needed and you may be invited to attend role specific in person meetings where appropriate.

For all volunteering enquiries please contact the Volunteer Services Office on 01904 777765 or email volunteers@stleonardshospice.org.uk
