Facilities Volunteer

Facilities volunteers support our team of dedicated staff who look after the Hospice site, helping with physical tasks in and around the Hospice building and grounds.

When am I needed?

We would like someone who can help once a week or fortnight, usually for two or three hours at a time, core times are 10-12pm or 2-4pm Monday to Friday, but we can be flexible to suit your availability. We can also accommodate hours on an ad hoc basis if it is difficult to arrange a regular shift.

What will I be doing?

  • Providing support to the Facilities Team
  • Washing and valeting St Leonards Hospice vehicles onsite
  • Carpet cleaning
  • High level dusting
  • Washing windows
  • Painting
  • Varnishing and caring for wooden benches
  • Gardening-assisting the facilities and gardening teams
  • Liasing with staff about maintenance requirements

What skills and qualities will I need?

  • Be healthy, energetic and reasonably strong
  • Have a good level of practical skills
  • Be willing to do repetitive or less challenging tasks when needed
  • Enjoy being part of a friendly, enthusiastic and hardworking team

Support and Supervision

Volunteers will be supervised by the Facilities Manager and supported by the Facilities Team.

The Volunteer Services Department staff will help with you find a suitable role, guide you through the application and induction process and be your point of contact for general enquiries about volunteering.

About the Hospice

St Leonard’s Hospice provides care and support to local people living with life-limiting illnesses and to the people they care about. We couldn’t carry out the important work we do without a committed and talented team of volunteers – people of all ages, and from all walks of life who help us provide care and support throughout the organisation. They are based both onsite at the Hospice, and across our community in our shops, Donation Centre and Wellbeing Hubs.
