Volunteer Housekeeping Assistant

The impeccable standards of cleanliness within the Hospice are down to the fantastic Housekeeping team, who make sure all areas inside the Hospice are enjoyable for every visitor and safe for every patient.  Volunteer Housekeeping Assistants work with and support the Housekeeping team.

Note:  Volunteer Housekeeping Assistants are subject to a Standard DBS check.

When am I needed?

We would like someone who can spare 2-4 hours per shift on a weekly or fortnightly basis, with flexibility to suit your schedule.  Shifts will take place during the morning, Monday to Friday.

What will I be doing?

  • Light cleaning, such as vacuuming, dusting, tidying rooms and public areas
  • Helping to clean the in-patient unit
  • Keeping housekeeping trolleys and storeroom in good order

What skills and qualities will I need?

  • Patience and kind-heartedness, and hopefully a sense of humour
  • Preferably, experience of cleaning to a high standard at home or at work
  • Understanding of the importance of good hygiene and infection control.
  • Being adaptable and able to carry out tasks within a team/on your own
  • Good mobility

Support and Supervision

Housekeeping volunteers report to the Housekeeping Manager who will provide you with full training, plan your duties, and liaise closely with you over all aspects of your role.  The Volunteer Services Department staff will help with your induction and be your point of contact for general enquiries about volunteering.

Training

Volunteers are required to complete mandatory training modules which are usually delivered via our online platform. Additional, booster and refresher training may be delivered as needed via e-learning, video links or face to face. You may also be invited to attend role specific in person meetings where appropriate.
